Geoneon Named Startup of the Year at the 2025 Australian Space Awards

Written by Geoneon | 02 June 2025

On May 28 in Sydney, Geoneon was awarded Startup of the Year at the 2025 Australian Space Awards — a proud milestone for our small but passionate team in Tasmania.

The Australian Space Awards are the leading national celebration of innovation and achievement in the space sector. Now in their sixth year, the awards honour individuals and businesses who are driving the future of Australia's space economy — from launch and satellites to climate, agriculture, and disaster management.

This year’s event brought together over 160 finalists from across the country, showcasing the depth of talent and ambition in Australia’s growing space industry. Geoneon was honoured alongside organisations like CSIRO, Southern Launch, and the Australian National University, and selected as the winner in a highly competitive category that included Deneb Space, AICRAFT, and Blue Dwarf Space.

Using Space for Climate Resilience

Geoneon was founded on a simple idea: that satellite data and AI can help communities become more resilient to climate change. From wildfire hazard mapping to urban heat and vegetation monitoring, we build tools that turn Earth observation data into actionable insights for governments, insurers, and infrastructure planners.

Our work spans remote sensing, deep learning, and geospatial analysis — but our focus is always human. We are not launching rockets. We are using the view from orbit to solve urgent problems down here on Earth.

As Roxane Bandini-Maeder, Geoneon’s CEO and co-founder, puts it:

“We came to Sydney to talk about satellites, data, and climate resilience… and somehow left with a trophy. This one is for our small but mighty team, our brave early partners, and everyone who believes space data should serve people.”

A Moment to Celebrate

The awards night, held at Ilumina in Sydney, was a celebration of the industry’s best and brightest — and a rare chance to step away from code and satellite mosaics to dress up and connect with others working at the edge of innovation. Hosted by Space Connect and Momentum Media, and emceed by comedian Mark Humphries, the evening was full of laughs, inspiration, and excitement for the future.

We are grateful to the organisers, judges, and sponsors for recognising the work of emerging players in the space sector. And we are honoured to be part of a community that includes so many brilliant minds, bold ideas, and people committed to making space work for society.

To our partners, clients, and supporters — thank you. We are excited for what is ahead.
