We are proud to share that Geoneon’s co-founder & CEO, Roxane Bandini-Maeder, has been invited to join UN Women’s Technical Advisory Group on Applications of Big Data and Data Sciences to Fill Gender Data Gaps. This is an incredible opportunity to contribute to a global initiative aimed at leveraging data science and big data to drive gender equality and better decision-making.
Across the world, there is a significant lack of gender-disaggregated data—information that reflects the distinct experiences, challenges, and needs of women and men. These gaps in data make it harder to develop effective policies, allocate resources, and track progress on gender equality.
For example:
Without quality, disaggregated data, inequalities remain hidden, and decision-makers lack the necessary insights to take targeted action.
Traditional data collection methods—such as censuses and surveys—are valuable but can be slow, expensive, and sometimes incomplete. This is where big data and advanced data science techniques can make a difference.
By leveraging sources like satellite imagery, mobile data, social media analytics, and AI-driven data models, we can:
As a company that applies AI and geospatial analytics to climate risk and environmental monitoring, Geoneon understands the power of data in driving meaningful change. Our expertise in processing large-scale geospatial and environmental datasets can contribute to improving how gender-related climate and disaster data is captured, analyzed, and used to inform policies.
We are honored to support UN Women’s mission and look forward to collaborating with experts from around the world to harness data science for gender equality.
This role aligns with Geoneon’s broader mission—leveraging cutting-edge technology to help communities and organisations around the world reduce their risk of disasters and adapt to the impacts of climate change. We will continue to integrate gender considerations into our work, ensuring that climate risk assessments, disaster preparedness strategies, and environmental insights reflect the realities of all communities, including women and marginalised groups.
Stay tuned for updates as we engage in this important initiative. Together, we can close the gender data gap and build a more equitable, data-driven future.
